Shannon Moss is a special agent of the Naval Investigative Service. The agency uses the secret space program “Deep Waters” not only to travel to the stars through “wormholes,” but also to travel through time. In 1997, Moss is assigned a case about the murder of a “marine” family and the kidnapping of his teenage daughter. She discovers that the “marine” was aboard one of the vanished spacecraft—the “Libra.” Alarmed by parallels with her own past, Moss goes to a likely future to find clues for solving the case in the present. A simple murder turns out to be part of a terrorist conspiracy against the program studying and preventing the Frontier—the apocalypse that appears in every variation of the future. With each trip, Moss sees that the Frontier is arriving earlier and earlier, and it is getting closer to her real present.
