An irrational brain. Why we think one thing and do another.
The brain is nature’s greatest mystery. Much about it science doesn’t know, and studying it is made much harder by the irrationality of the brain. It doesn’t work the way it “should” according to common sense. You can safely call our brain strange—it offers researchers so many unexpected surprises.
“Sometimes, the brain has to disconnect a person from the surrounding world, shielding them from emotional experiences… A person can shut themselves away, detach from the world, even show all the features of organic debility. These are the consequences of the brain’s protective reaction—its neurons, which for a long time were in an excited state, threatening an actual physical breakdown.”
