Description
Young Italian Antonio— a poor orphan with a poetic gift and a warm, passionate heart— follows a path from hardship in the slums of Rome to success in aristocratic drawing rooms. His fate is shaped by journeys across Italy: at every new stage, he is supported by patrons or guided by love, and the art of improvisation helps him speak of pain and joy. This autobiographical novel, filled with light, music, and strong emotions, is considered the great storyteller’s foremost prose achievement.
