The book “Jesus—Our Destiny,” written by the German pastor Wilhelm Busch, has long held a special place in Christian literature. Its foundation is made up of audio recordings of the author’s sermons, later published in book form. The pastor himself, Busch, turned to God in France during the First World War, when he served as a German artillery officer. His ministry took place during very difficult times of postwar devastation and the inflation that swept the country during the Weimar Republic—along with the social upheaval that came with it, and finally the infamous Nazi regime and World War II. In these historical catastrophes, Pastor Busch remained faithful to Christ and to His truth, even though he was repeatedly arrested for his convictions and opposition to Hitler’s policy. His rich life experience and living faith are reflected in this book. In it, he convincingly—and with his characteristic humor—shows the reader that Christ is our most urgent need. Without Him, we exist but do not truly live. The book speaks about all the main questions of faith: who Jesus is, what it means when God is silent, whether it’s possible to talk to God, how to cope with life, guilt, and sin, and much more. To date, the book has been translated into many languages and has become a true classic of Christian literature.
