The worldwide bestseller “The Perfect Nanny” by Leïla Slimani, winner of the Goncourt Prize, is a chilling detective thriller. But it is also a story taken straight from life about complex human relationships, where love poisoned by jealousy turns into hatred. The book is based on horrific real events that occurred in an American family.
A young married couple — Paul, a music producer, and Myriam, an aspiring lawyer — hires their children’s nanny: a middle-aged widow with an adult daughter living separately. Paul and Myriam are pleasantly surprised by how well Louise fits them: she wins the children’s hearts by inventing new exciting games, and becomes both a cook and a housekeeper. Never before has the apartment been so clean, and the table so full of delicious food. But over time the couple discovers that they have become dependent on their “perfect” nanny—who turns out not to be so perfect after all…
