Edegey is the main character of the novel—a railway worker who spent almost his entire life at the Boranly-Buranny junction, lost in the boundless Sarozek steppes, where only two people took root: Edegey and his friend Kazangap. And now Kazangap’s time has come to die. After losing his best friend, Edegey decides to bury him in an ancient cemetery, Ana-Beyit, shrouded in many legends and tales.
At the same time, another plotline is interwoven into the novel’s fabric—connected with establishing contact with an extraterrestrial civilization, the planet Lesnaya Grud (Forest Breast), which had advanced far in its development.
