Description
In the boundless desert, which has been holding fast for four hundred years within the former borders of the mighty Ilkazara Empire, a young fanatic heretic sets out on a mission as loud as it is mortally dangerous: to restore order, justice, and the former prosperity to the kingdom of Hammad-al-Naqir. El-Murid, nicknamed the Student—this very “chosen one,” destined to revive the great state by raising it on the blood of vanquished enemies. But the throne is also claimed by others—no less strong and no less worthy…
With his family and an army, El-Murid approaches the Sacred Temples, to finally take possession of them and name his grown daughter—who is still without a name. Victory is achieved, but in the battle his wife, Meryem, receives a mortal wound. And this becomes only the first link in a chain of tragedies that will change the fate of the Student.
The book includes ten works—from “Silver-Paws,” the earliest published text of the future famous American fantasist, to “Hell’s Forge,” a hypnotic tale of accursed pirates and mysterious lands. These texts are key points in the chronicles of the vast, many-faced world of the Empire of Horror, created by Glen Cook, where deranged magic runs the show, and heroes known from earlier books in the cycle converge in a clash with enemies beyond imagination.
