After the sudden death of a priest-friend who found a parchment covered with mysterious runes, archaeologist Bjørn Beltaye becomes drawn into a religious conspiracy that traces its origins back to deep antiquity. Trying to understand who and why was interested in the priest’s death, Bjørn himself becomes a target. Still, he stubbornly tries to solve the riddle, discovering clues in both the present and the past—relocating in his search from Oslo to Berlin, Rome, Cairo, Washington, Santo Domingo… He learns that the murder, in some mysterious way, is connected to the year 1013, when a band of Vikings led by the Norwegian king Olaf plundered in Egypt, upstream of the Nile, the tomb of a certain Saint—and the Norwegians, not even knowing it, became the owners of one of the greatest secrets of the Old Testament. But what secret is it? And can the hero withstand the powerful forces of his enemies and reveal to the world the mystery of past centuries?
