“— You—what?”

“— I’m pregnant.”

“— From whom?”

“— From you.”

A long pause, a heavy look—and then a loud laugh that cuts straight through my nerves. I hold back tears and bite my lips. He won’t believe it—he’ll never believe it.

What did I hope for?

“— I thought you’d fall for it?”

“— No.”

“— And what did you expect?”—now he’s shouting, I flinch.

“— I’ve always used protection, and that time wasn’t an exception. You gave yourself.”

“— Me? But it’s true: I’m pregnant, and it’s your child.”

Bitter resentment, pain tearing me from the inside. I felt these emotions so clearly—then the voice, the words… they killed and dragged me through the mud.
