Description
The continuation of a family saga telling the fates of four March sisters.

Louisa May Alcott (1832–1888) grew up in a “literary family,” surrounded by famous poets, writers, and philosophers. And her first novel, published in 1868 and largely autobiographical in character—“Little Women”—became not only a sensation of its time but also immortalized the writer’s name. Later Alcott returned again and again to the further destinies of the heroines of this novel, creating the first “family saga” in American literature— the tetralogy “Little Women,” “Good Wives,” “Little Men,” and “Jo’s Boys.”

“Good Wives” continues the family saga about the fates of four March sisters. Little girls grew up and quietly turned into elegant ladies. Each sister follows her own life path: Meg is preparing to marry John Brooke, Jo plans to become a famous writer, Amy dreams of traveling around Europe and painting, and Beth wants to stay at home and live a calm life. The sisters face trials of adult life, but despite their different paths, together they manage the difficulties—and each of the girls finds her own happiness.
