Cold Crematorium: Reporting from the Land of Auschwitz

Cold Crematorium: Reporting from the Land of Auschwitz

Description
József Debreczeni is a well-known Hungarian writer and journalist who ended up in the death camp Auschwitz. He was ordered to die within 45 minutes after his arrival, but the guards decided to use him as forced labor. He survived a torturous 12-month stay in the camp, endured all the horrors, and in the end was saved.

His memoirs are considered among the harshest condemnations of Nazism ever written. Debreczeni shows the mechanisms of slavery, social hierarchy inside the camps, and the ways Nazis destroyed not only bodies, but also people’s souls. His writing style combines clarity and analytical thinking with artistic expressiveness, making the book impossible to put down.
