The unsuccessful writer Mikolaj Glovatsky returns from Warsaw to the provincial town of Zybork. Once he wrote a novel about his small homeland that became a real bestseller, but he exaggerated and distorted many things—portraying Zybork as a true hell on Earth. In any case, his inspiration and money quickly ran out, and Mikolaj goes home to his father—whom he hates and fears—and to the city he sincerely considers the worst place in the world. And indeed, corruption rules here; criminal bosses hold sway, and human life is worth little.
People even say that the whole land is cursed. And now the leaders of the local community are disappearing without a trace. When one of them is found in the forest—wasted, deranged, with pieces of human flesh stuck in his teeth—the town is gripped by panic. No one yet knows that this is only the beginning of a nightmare, and the threads lead to the brutal murder of Mikolaj’s first girl many years ago.
