Tilo Widra, a writer and film scholar, presented the first double biography devoted to the famous creative duo Alma and Alfred Hitchcocks. In his work, he used an extensive set of documents and conducted many interviews. With particular attention, the author examines the key events and films that left their mark on the history of 20th-century cinema.
The Hitchcocks were innovators, consistently finding perfect ways to express their ideas. Their joint efforts led to the creation of such well-known films as “Psycho,” “Rear Window,” “To Catch a Thief,” “Vertigo,” and “The Birds.” Alma, remaining in the shadows as a screenwriter and editor, always had a decisive say on important matters. According to director Margarethe von Trotta, this book recognizes Alma as an equal co-creator of Hitchcock.
The edition will be interesting to film lovers, fans of outstanding biographies, and also to those studying women’s emancipation and their contribution to cultural history.
