The Storm

We present Ostrovsky’s play «„The Storm“» in the format of an audio drama!

Alexander Ostrovsky is a genius of Russian letters—our “Shakespeare and Molière”—who brought merchants and officials, their children and relatives, onto the stage, creating a sweeping chronicle of life in 19th-century Russian society. Ivan Goncharov once told the playwright: “Only after you, we Russians, can with pride say: ‘We have our own Russian, national theatre.’” In several acts of «The Storm», old customs and prejudices, need and vices, honesty and provincial longing intertwine—and all of it inevitably leads to a tragic resolution. For what is left for the doomed Katerina after an affair with a feeble husband, and even under the thunder of a storm, if not to step into the water?
