For the first time in Russian: Cecil Scott Forrester’s classic novel, famed for his cycle of books about the adventures of Captain Hornblower. The book was called “perhaps the best adventure novel about the Second World War” (Life) and “the most exciting sea adventure since Hemingway’s ‘The Old Man and the Sea’” (The Guardian). Set at the very beginning of the Second World War. An international convoy of 37 allied ships must cross the troubled waters of the North Atlantic—waters full of dangers. Behind the convoy, like a pack of wolves, the Nazi submarines follow, ready to sink Allied ships at the first opportunity.

George Krause, captain of one of the escort ships, is an old sea wolf—but this is his first participation in such large-scale combat. On his shoulders rests not only responsibility for the valuable cargo, but also the lives of three thousand people. A film adaptation of this classic work has recently been released worldwide. The lead role was played by Tom Hanks, who also wrote the screenplay. The director is Aaron Schneider (“Buried Alive,” series “The Best”).
