Description
Plato is the founder of European philosophy. Everyone who plans to read his dialogues knows this: from them grew both mysterious Neoplatonism and medieval scholasticism, and classical philosophy. Often, ancient authors are no longer read under the assumption that it will require special preparation—yet Plato’s dialogues shock with their unexpected simplicity. "The Republic" is devoted to the problems of building an ideal state founded on the highest justice. It also includes a critical analysis of six forms of government arranged by the author sequentially—from the best to the worst: monarchy, aristocracy, timocracy, oligarchy, democracy, and tyranny. The design uses a painting: Raphael Santi’s "The School of Athens," 1511.
