Gluхово, where Zlata runs away to, is nothing like the capital. There are no millions of people, no злостиві кредитори, and… no ex-husband with his latest girlfriend.
But there’s a chance to start a new life—though, as a waitress at a small café. And in this café, a descendant of local aristocrats also likes to drop by—and by coincidence, he’s the head of a detective agency: Felix Cherkasov. The only problem is, he isn’t the only one who takes a fancy to the pretty girl.
A mysterious guest comes to her at night, frightens her, and makes her tremble with fear. Then, in the morning, he disappears as if he had never been there.
Is it really the evil influence of the landlady in the rented apartment, or is it only the play of Zlata’s imagination? And what secrets does this provincial town—seemingly stepped out of photographs of the nineteenth century—hide?
