Old-money lenders (usurers) were being murdered in the previous century. Now old ladies—moonshiners—are being murdered. By the will of fate, an inexperienced lawyer, Kolya Vostretsov, ended up having to investigate exactly such a crime. And in the village, everyone suspects his brother—the big fan of overindulging. Because of that, Kolya doesn’t remember what happened that fateful evening. But the more the truth comes to light, the more Kolya is convinced: behind what looks like a purely everyday murder are events from three years ago—and… another crime.
