Description
Кnut Hamsun (1859—1952) is a Norwegian writer, winner of the 1920 Nobel Prize in Literature. “Hunger” is Knut Hamsun’s first novel, and the complete edition was published in 1890. The work, containing numerous autobiographical details, brought European fame to an aspiring writer. The story is told through the voice of an unnamed protagonist—a poor young man trying to earn money by writing articles for newspapers. The money he gets for a single piece lasts only a few days, and he can’t sell more often than once a week, because the topics he chooses are too complicated for the mass reader. Despite the difficult circumstances, the hero doesn’t abandon his principles—he can’t write bad texts and can’t help but hate society.
