A goblin dreaming of becoming a dragon sets off to rob the magician’s castle, which the magician has gone to—on vacation—with a squad of unclean beings. During the journey, the vile creature realizes he is an individual—a creature of God capable of moral improvement. The changes that occur in the goblin’s soul lead to the most unexpected consequences.
This story is not only about the goblin, but also about trolls, wights, gremlins, and other unclean beings who are turning to Christianity, like tax collectors and sinners. The action takes place in the fairy-tale land of Gautamia (named after the great Buddha Gautama), which the Good News has only just reached. Before this, its ordinary inhabitants lived by the principle “nothing is real anyway; and if nothing exists, then there’s no morality—so you can do whatever you want,” while the ruling elite of Pharisee-elves despised their people. But now the inhabitants begin to confess Christ, and the elves do everything in their power to fight “the Galilean heresy”…
