Since childhood, Georg Fischer has suffered from a mental disorder: he sleeps twelve hours a day and never remembers his dreams. Fischer believes that the ground under his house is riddled with twisting tunnels where mysterious creatures live—maybe worms, maybe snakes—and that he himself is one of them! Surrendering to the fantasies tormenting his soul, Fischer writes and publishes a poetry collection titled “The Master of Tunnels,” two copies of which he sends as a gift to his alma mater (a small university in Arkham, Massachusetts).
