Gimpel the Fool

The hero of the story "Gimpel the Fool" is a rural holy fool, an eccentric man who believes everything he’s told and whose neighbors can easily trick him. "No doubt our world is an imaginary world," says Gimpel. "But in order to get into an imaginary world, you have to pass through the real world."
