Georgy Sviridov is an outstanding composer of our era, a worthy heir and continuation of the great traditions of Russian national music. His work deserves a detailed and multifaceted consideration in musicological studies of various genres—from popular essays to specialized theoretical research. This work is conceived as a generalizing monograph. The main focus is on the composer’s life and creative path, and in the analyses of his works—their ideological and figurative content. The musicologist Arnold Naumovich Sohor was a friend of Sviridov; the composer dedicated one of his best compositions to him—“The Departed Rus.”
