Description
Timur Kibirov is a poet and prose writer who has published more than twenty poetry books and has received numerous Russian and international awards, including the Poets’ Prize (“Поэт”) (2008). His new book, “The General and His Family,” which the author defines as an “historical novel,” is a family chronicle set in the late Soviet era. With irony, Kibirov turns to enduring storylines—the rift between generations, the theme of emigration, the search for one’s own path—assembling the narrative like a patchwork quilt of quotations and cultural references that shaped a person’s consciousness in late USSR. The precision of his observations and attention to the smallest details bring “The General and His Family” into the space of a major Russian novel—both piercing and caustic.
