Pavel and Gul had a grandmother, a mother, and a wonderful old house that bore witness to their family’s history. But everything changes in an instant: their grandmother dies, their mother disappears, and the children end up in an orphanage. In her new novel for teenagers, Dina Sabitova, winner of the «Cherished Dream» prize for the story «Circus in a Box», speaks of true values: only family and home in the modern world, just as a hundred years ago, can offer protection to all people, but above all to those who have not yet grown up. And the feeling of orphanhood and loneliness may overtake not only children left without parents, but any of us who are deprived of the support of loved ones and native walls. Pavel is a thirteen-year-old teenager, yet Sabitova endows him with an almost instinctive sense of responsibility for the family. He is sure that as long as their House still stands, he and Gul are not orphans. And this conviction helps the children overcome all obstacles in order to return to it in the end.
