Football Through the Years

In this book, N. P. Starostin—one of the creators of the “Spartak” society and for many years the director of Moscow’s football team—tells about his life in sports. The narrative about the history of the formation and development of domestic football unfolds against the backdrop of the broader events taking place in the country. The author dwells on the dramatic period of the lives of the Starostin brothers—the years they spent in prison—explains why they were repressed, and tells how the football ball helped them and many others preserve their lives. The author recalls the people with whom he played and worked and shares his views on certain problems of our football.
