In the novel “The French Gardener,” the main heroine, Miranda Keleybourn, has always lived in the capital, and moving to an old estate proves difficult for her. What’s more, her marriage to a successful financier, David, is coming apart at the seams, and Miranda has every reason to believe that her husband—once wildly in love—no longer remains faithful. Everything changes when a charming French gardener, Jean-Paul, comes to work at the estate. He seems to carry a kind of magic that can bring happiness to others. But is Jean-Paul happy himself? The further Miranda’s suspicions go, the stronger she becomes convinced that there is some sad secret in her new friend’s past.
