In a way, this is a continuation of the novel “Running.” The same characters, the same unstoppable excitement, and the same passion for running. However, the interference of the so-called Russian mafia sharply heightens the plot and fuels the passions mentioned.
The plot revolves around a young mare, Florence, born as the result of a secret covering of the thoroughbred mare Flora’s—who had been dismissed due to illness—by the famous stallion named Devil. The sexual moment itself is only weakly reflected in the novel, but its consequences are, namely: the fact that Florence’s parents endowed her with outstanding racing qualities and a fighting spirit brought some variety into the routine course of life at the Warsaw racetrack. In short: thanks to the lively joint efforts of Pani Joanna and the mare Florence, the Russian mafia committed suicide, while the Polish mafia tucked in its tail and toned down its ambitions (for a time, of course). The plot is built very elegantly: everything begins with a matchmaking ceremony, and in the finale everything points to something new. In the meantime, there are no descriptions of love-erotic scenes, so fans of this kind of literature needn’t worry. Here, gambling/excitement takes the lead, along with sober calculation, relentless logic, and Pani Joanna’s talent for getting involved in all sorts of criminal stories!
