In «Animal Farm», George Orwell used the genre of fable to present certain well-known historical events in veiled form. He wrote: «Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism… “Animal Farm” was the first book in which I tried, with full consciousness of what I was doing, to fuse political purpose and artistic purpose into one whole».
The events in the book will remind the reader of the history of the Soviet state. Here we see events beginning with the revolution and ending with the final collapse of all the hopes of the farm’s inhabitants, with all the “sacred” commandments reduced to a simple and precise formula: «All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others»". At times the descriptions of the metamorphoses on the farm bring a smile, at times sadness, since behind all the events real historical facts are easily discerned. The obvious lies on the surface.
