Description
A new novel from the author of “The Slaughterhouse”—a unique thriller in the spirit of Arthur Hailey about a medical experiment that goes terribly wrong. A story about the power of love and the fragility of the human soul.

Biochemist Celia Jenssen, working as part of a research team from Harvard, is developing a new drug for Alzheimer’s disease. Celia has a personal reason, too—her father is ill, and she’s ready to do anything to cure him. The pharmacologists are optimistic, and the first tests of the drug go successfully. The study moves to Phase Three—trials on patients. If everything works out, it will be a revolutionary breakthrough in treating this terrible disease.

But at the same time, a chain of unexplained violent acts begins. An 86-year-old man attacks his neighbors with a knife in a nursing home. A mass shooting happens in an IKEA store. In Paris, a man is shot dead. Are these events connected to the new medication—or is it just coincidence? And what do you do when this unbelievably effective drug has such a terrifying side effect? How do you make a choice where it seems impossible?

The novel also contains an autobiographical thread: “When I had already started working on this book, my father got sick. Cancer—and everything developed very quickly. And in the book, a daughter’s storyline appeared on its own: she tries to save her father from a swiftly progressing disease. I wanted him to have time to read my book—he had always been a fan of thrillers in the American spirit. But he didn’t get the chance,” writes Osa Eriksdottir.

The audio version of the novel was masterfully performed by Olga Pletneva, a voice actress, theater and film actress. Uma Thurman’s voice in “Kill Bill”.
