Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832) — a German poet and thinker, author of the immortal “Faust.”
“Faust” is one of the greatest works in world literature, on which Johann Wolfgang Goethe worked almost his whole life. Faust, striving to understand the meaning of life, makes a pact with the devil, who promises to give him all the blessings and joys of existence. It truly is a great work. The scenery of this tragedy is the earth, the sky, and hell; its directors are God and the devil, and their assistants are countless spirits and angels—representatives of light and darkness in their endless struggle.
