Description
A new book in the “Masters of Horror” series offers an exciting and terrifying example of the horror genre that received the Shirley Jackson Award.

The main character, Louise Kearns, is a teacher and the mother of a son who has autism. She also works part-time as a film critic, trying to make ends meet. During a private screening, she finds a strange reel containing a fragment of a silent film and begins linking it to the mysterious Mrs. Iris Dunlopp Whitcombe, who disappeared from a private train compartment in 1918. Louise decides to prove that Whitcombe was Canada’s first female film director in order to boost her academic career. However, the deeper she digs into her research, the more she understands that the fragments of the film’s history are connected to the strange legend of the Mistress of Midday—a demon or a ghost who always gets her due. Louise realizes that some fairy tales are painfully real, and evil won’t hide even under bright sunlight. Now she’ll have to be afraid not only for herself, but also for those dear to her.
