Description
Konstantin Leontyev (1831–1891) is known above all as a philosopher, literary historian, and cultural critic.

"This manuscript I received recently. Its author died about a year ago at his estate. He asked one of his relatives to pass it on to me along with other excerpts from his memoirs. Although the late Ladnev and I were not friends, and in my life I met him only twice, both of those meetings were the most favorable for bringing us closer. I will not describe in detail either our first acquaintance in that very Constantinople where his story begins, or our second meeting on the Danube. About ten years passed between these two meetings, and Ladnev had changed a great deal in that time: he had grown older and become very sad."
