Carmen Maria Machado is a fiction writer and essayist, a laureate of numerous awards. She lives in Philadelphia with her spouse.

Carmen Maria Machado’s works of fiction and nonfiction have appeared in New Yorker, Granta, NPR, Guernica, Electric Literature, Gulf Coast, Tin House, Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy, The Best Horror of the Year, Year’s Best Weird Fiction, and Best Women’s Erotica. The story “A Stitch for My Husband” was nominated for the Shirley Jackson Awards and the Nebula, received a special Pushcart Prize nomination, and was included in the longlist for the James Tiptree Jr. Award. The writer holds a master’s degree in fine arts from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop; she was invited to give lectures or conduct a creative sabbatical by the American Society of Copernicus, the Elizabeth George Foundation, CINTAS, Speculative Literature Foundation, the University of Iowa, and creative residencies at Yaddo, Hedgebrook, and the Edna Millet residency.
