Description
“Jack Eight Perkin”—a story about a Russian boy who, during the Civil War, ends up in America, but then fate takes another turn and he returns home—to an even younger country, revolutionary Russia… Step by step, we’ll go with him through a whirlwind of incredible adventures. And in the finale, having overcome all obstacles and joys of creating the future, we will involuntarily wonder: where is the true place for fantasists and romantics?!

This book was written long ago, during the years of the First Five-Year Plan, during the creation of the first collective farms, when our village learned about the first tractors that appeared on fields freed from fences. Mechanization then was still scarce—it was only beginning to change the age-old way of life of the old village.
The book told about socialist transformations that happened if not today, then literally yesterday. Now it has become history—but all the more interesting it is for our modern reader to read a living account of how, in what circumstances, the breaking of the old and the formation of the new—something unprecedented—took place.
