Two from the Past

When the door was finally forced open, Major of Justice and investigator Denis Pankratovich Malygin discovered that everything in the room had been smashed up: broken dishes lay scattered on the floor, the tables had been overturned, and belongings were strewn about. As if some stranger armed with a baseball bat had walked around the room and destroyed everything in its path.

At the center of the chaos lay the dead owner, with his head smashed in. But the door was locked from the inside, and the windows were shut.
