Description
The comedy takes place in a fairy-tale land for the English of Shakespeare’s time—Illyria.
Duke Orsino of Illyria is in love with the young Countess Olivia, but she is in mourning after her brother’s death and does not even receive the duke’s messengers. Olivia’s indifference only fans the duke’s passion. Orsino hires a young man named Cesario, whose beauty, devotion, and subtle feelings he manages to appreciate in just a few days. Orsino sends him to Olivia to tell her of his love.
