The radio play is based on the diaries of the director of the USSR Academy of Sciences archive, Georgy Alekseevich Knyazev, and schoolboy Yura Ryabinkin, which they kept from June 22, 1941 to January 1942. Two siege diaries, two fates—and within them, the fate of all Leningraders: their heroism, steadfastness, and courage. Included are documentary recordings from the time of the Siege of Leningrad: addresses by writers Vsevolod Vishnevsky and Olga Berggolts; a report from the streets of Leningrad; and a message about the lifting of the blockade.
