Description
Vladimir Dubrovsky could hope for a happy and worthy life, but the arbitrariness of the court and the arrogance of others destroyed his fate in an instant. Having been left with nothing, he becomes a robber and hides in the forests, punishing those who are used to living off strength, greed, and impunity. Pushkin vividly and precisely depicts 19th-century Russia, where law gives way to wealth and influence, and the very notion of honor drives a person to seek the truth where there is only ever a weapon.
