Stephen is a lifelong loser: his acting career didn’t take off, his wife left him, and his daughter judges him. Josh, on the other hand, is lucky. He’s handsome, world-famous, surprisingly talented, and happily married. In a play about Byron, Josh shines in the lead role. And Stephen is Josh’s stage double. But because Josh is unbearably healthy, even after late-night partying he never ruins a performance—and always, to the delight of the audience, goes on stage.
Stephen suspects he was never meant to appear on stage in Byron’s costume. He feels his life is over. At Josh’s party, Stephen meets a beautiful, witty woman. But once again he’s unlucky: Nora—the woman he’s given his heart to—is Josh’s wife.
Stephen faces a difficult choice: accept Josh’s tempting offer, or confess his love to Nora and effectively end his career in show business. Is he ready to be an eternal understudy?..
