Description

Astrosociologist Vasily Shtilike receives a task to go to the distant Niobeya—a small planet in the system of Harmodia and Aristogiton—in order to create a development program that must save it from destruction, and the niobs—a small community of humanoids inhabiting the planet—from inevitable doom. The reason for possible fatal events is banal: Niobeya is fabulously rich! Ore of stable super-heavy elements! On Earth they synthesize it in micrograms, but on Niobeya—in millions of tons. Developing Niobeya’s depths will cause a revolution in Earth’s technology. Naturally, in the pursuit of profit, nobody will care about the planet’s further existence and its population. But it might still be possible to fix everything. And Vasily Shtilike sets out to carry out his teacher’s commission—the famous astronaut Razdorin.
