The family of a young Englishwoman, Anne Elliot, finds itself in a difficult financial situation, so it rents out its estate, Killyng Hall, and moves to a small seaside resort town, Bath. The new owners of the estate are closely related by blood to Captain Frederick Wentworth, who several years ago was engaged to Anne. But the family and friends persuaded the girl to break off the engagement because of so-called “reasons of prudence” — the suitor was not noble enough and was poor. And now, after a seven-year separation, Anne and Captain Wentworth meet again. Frederick is now a respected man, and his sea voyages brought him fame, honor, and prosperity. He is still unmarried, but will he be able to open his heart to Anne once more?
