Vikram Seth is an author whose talent brought him worldwide fame. Born in India, he studied at Oxford and Stanford, where he wrote his first novel, «Golden Gates», in verse. His novel «A Suitable Boy» set a record as the longest novel in the history of English literature, published in a single volume. The story takes place in the fictional city of Brahmpur on the banks of the Ganges, shortly after India gained independence. The novel is about finding a suitable husband for the youngest daughter of Roopa Mehra and Lata, who wants to listen to her own heart rather than the opinions of elders. In 2020, a miniseries titled «A Suitable Boy» was released based on the novel; the screenplay was written by Andrew Davies, and the series was directed by Mira Nair.
