Dombey and Son

At the center of the narrative is the head of a famous trading firm, Mr. Dombey—a man of exceptional arrogance, with a cold heart and a frozen soul. Conscious of his own superiority, he notices everything but his daughter Florence, because she holds no interest for his business. He is also indifferent to his wife, who dies during the birth of his son. Only his son, Paul, brings him satisfaction, since it is with him that he links the future might of his firm.
