A new book by Azar Nafisi tells about her growing up in revolutionary-era Iran. The main character, Moji, spends time with her sister in her grandfather’s garden, listening to tales from “A Thousand and One Nights” as the revolution begins in the country. After the Shah leaves Iran and they immigrate to the United States, she faces hostility from classmates, but then returns to her home country.
There she finds a friend who introduces her to forbidden books, and Moji begins to change, discovering herself and her path. This book explores the theme of lives shattered by revolution, war, and autocracy—with tenderness and honesty.
