A young, talented, ambitious engineer who created the mysterious ATM241 unit in conditions of extreme secrecy was sent to the southern steppes to an equally mysterious plant for the implementation of this mysterious unit.
At the plant, according to the official version, they synthesize protein (from plants), beef, or pork. His development of the ATM241 unit was supposed to eliminate a couple of harmful components from the output. The young man wanted to monitor the entire process from the very start. They tried to dissuade him, but (for the sake of youth!) he insisted on his own. As a result, he was shocked by the unflattering truth that became clear to him (there is no synthesis at all in reality). The killing of animals is carefully concealed from the population, and therefore the young man, who has been in the world of evil, because of his excessive curiosity, the “clean” society doesn’t want to accept him back into.
A certain island of evil in a world of well-being.
And immediately—an alternative: a world turned inside out. Our cruel world full of evil and violence—and within it, an island of prosperity in the form of a psychiatric hospital for a mentally ill old man. Two parallels, two realities, two diverging worlds of values.
The road is long: from understanding through suffering, to action, purification, and atonement for sins. One wants to believe (many bonfires of hope in the finale) that a person, even making mistakes and falling, must remain a human being—patient and kind, wise and magnanimous, capable of action. The path to the future begins today, and we begin it—each of us.
