Yara, Eliz, and Yuna are raised in the Cradle and all their childhood they are inseparable. They are nauznitsi—women with magical power: from their hands stretches a thread with special properties. Such threads can illuminate a house, heal a wound—or become an indestructible cell.

In adult life, the nauznitsi sisters face different fates. Yuna, a strong golden nauznitsi, is taken as a wife by an influential man. Eliz, a valuable nauznitsi with silver threads, stays by the Cradle to raise the next generations of daughters. And Yara marries an inventor and discovers that she has no threads—and no one knows why.

One day, it is Yara who receives a troubling message: Yuna has disappeared. Yara intends to find her close sister, but she can’t even imagine what these searches will turn into.
