Description

The Finnish writer Emmi Itäranta’s debut novel, “The Tea Master’s Diary,” won the contest for popular science and fantasy literature organized by the Finnish publisher “Teos.” In this dystopian novel, readers are presented with a world that could become real: there are no more winters, the land has turned into a desert, and the rivers have long dried up, leaving only scars on the surface. Military rule prevails—soldiers have turned fresh water into a powerful means of controlling people. Water is distributed by ration cards, and any violation is punished without mercy.
