An officer of the GRU is sent to Kyiv on an illegal mission of utmost importance. The intelligence agent is tasked with recruiting a former GRU super-agent codenamed Lazarus; if he refuses, the task is to eliminate him. The agent arrives in the Ukrainian capital and tries to contact Lazarus—but the super-agent himself comes to the agent’s hotel. He realizes why the agent has come; Lazarus notes everything and even calculates complicated multi-step combinations. But neither he nor the agent yet knows whether they are enemies or allies. A subtle psychological game begins.
The agent declares that he is going to kill the head of Ukrainian intelligence, Moskovenko, and asks Lazarus to get him a sniper rifle. Lazarus promises.
