The Wild American

The novel “The Wild American” is set in the first years of the 19th century during the circumnavigation of Russian sailors under the command of Krusenstern and Lisyansky. The hero is the scandalously famous cousin of L. N. Tolstoy, Fyodor Ivanovich Tolstoy, nicknamed the American, and used as a prototype for characters in works by Pushkin, Griboedov, and Tolstoy himself. That very American who was a friend of Pushkin, his sworn enemy, and finally his matchmaker. The American who could go under a bullet for a friend—yet strip him down to the thread at a card table.
